Oostvaardersplassen
2 weeks ago I went to the Oostvaardersplassen. This is a nature reserve of approximately 56km² in the Dutch province of Flevoland. It is a very important wintering area for birds like the Barnacle Goose coming from the far North. We could see this as there were literally thousands of them arriving. It was a spectacular view, especially with the deafening sound they make.
This area is also known for a colony of permanent living spoonbills. I was lucky to find some a make some nice pictures.
Since this is an important wintering area, a lot of duck species can be found here as well, some living here permanently and others again, just for a period of the year.
Besides this, there is also a spot known for the kingfishers. We have visited the spot twice that day and stayed for about 2 hours each time and missed it every time on 15minutes. I’ve made a picture but something is missing I think…
Have a look to the pictures and hope to see you again.
